Real-time AIS tracking for St. Paul and St. George Islands
Explore complete vessel tracking history with detailed statistics, visit patterns, and fishing activity analysis for all detected vessels.
This page provides real-time marine vessel tracking for the Pribilof Islands using AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology. We operate two VHF AIS receiversāone on St. George Island and one on St. Paul Islandāthat continuously monitor vessel traffic in the Bering Sea.
How it works: Commercial vessels, fishing boats, and Coast Guard ships broadcast their position, speed, heading, and identification via VHF radio signals. Our receivers pick up these signals and display them in real-time.
Alert system: When vessels come within 20 nautical miles of either island, a red alert banner appears at the top of the page. Vessels are categorized as "Approaching" (within 20nm) or listed under "All Other Vessels" for everything else detected by our receivers.
Monitored vessels: We track 19 longline fishing vessels that frequently operate in the Pribilof Zone. When these vessels appear, they're marked with a ā TRACKED badge and include a link to view their historical tracking data on chagix.fish, which provides multi-year AIS data, interactive maps, and fishing activity analysis.
Note: AIS relies on line-of-sight VHF signals. Not all vessels have AIS transponders, and some may turn them off. Range varies based on vessel height, antenna placement, and weather conditions. Vessels that haven't transmitted a signal in over 30 minutes are automatically removed from the display. This data is for informational purposes only and should not be used for navigation.
