Experimental Pribilof Islands Projects
The Sandbox is a dedicated space for experimental projects related to the Pribilof Islands. This is where I tinker with new ideas, build prototypes, and test concepts before they're ready for prime time.
These projects range from data visualization tools to creative experiments that explore different aspects of life in the Pribilofs. Some eventually graduate to the main site; others stay here as fun experiments.
Why share experimental work? Because the Pribilof Islands community is small and engaged. If you're interested in these remote islands, you might enjoy seeing what's being developed, providing feedback, or even getting inspired to create your own projects!
This is where it started. I wanted to see if I could make a little fishing game for the islands — nothing fancy, just vanilla JavaScript and SVG. The fish have Unangan names (Chagix̂, Atxidax̂, Qalagax̂), and St. Paul and St. George play a little different. It lived here in the sandbox while I poked at it.
It’s out of beta now. You’ll find it under Games on the home page. I hope you enjoy it.
This was just a fun task I wanted to try. I’m not sure I’ll keep working on this particular game. Eventually I’d like to put the code on GitHub so anyone who wants to can toy with it.
Google’s 15-day ensemble, two island cells. The scoreboard is wind vs METAR, buoys, and HRRR-AK. Next door is just opening the box — rain, cloud, pressure, station temp. Still no fog, waves, or ice.
